George Clooney Talks "The Monuments Men" in Variety: Everyone Worked for Crazy Cheap

With his new film "The Monuments Men" slated to hit theaters this Friday (February 7th), George Clooney pitched in on promotions by covering the latest issue of Variety magazine.

During his interview, the 52-year-old actor chatted about his action-packed biopic, including behind-the-scene stories.

Highlights from Mr. Clooney's Q&A session are as follows. For more, be sure to pay a visit to Variety!

On "The Monuments Men":
"I had some understanding that Hitler was stealing sh*t. I didn't understand he was taking all of it. They don't teach that in school. That's why I loved the story. We figured at this point, we've done so many WWII movies, there really aren't any new ones. You have to get around to someone as smart as Queen [Tarantino with 'Inglourious Basterds'], who can burn Hitler in a movie theater to do something different."

On "The Monument Mens'" budget cuts:
"If you pay everybody a full boatload, it's a $150 million film. You just can't do it. Everybody worked for super cheap, like crazy cheap."

On "The Monument Men's'" production during winter:
"It starts to snow. You couldn't get f***ed worse. There's John Goodman and Bill Murray and Matt Damon all picking up camera boxes and carrying them down this hill with the crew. Bill and John would come to the set when they weren't even in scenes. It was really sweet."
