Beyonce's Night Out: Breaking Down Her 'Tasteful' Look

Fashion expert weighs in on B's post-baby style during a President Obama fundraiser.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>All the single ladies: Put your hands up and show Beyonc&#233; some love for looking so smoking hot just 10 weeks after <a href="/news/articles/1676906/beyonce-jay-z-baby-born-ivy-blue.jhtml">giving birth to her baby girl, Blue Ivy</a>. </P><P> </P><P>After multiple sightings of the star out and about in NYC since she first emerged at a <a href="/news/articles/1678726/beyonce-post-baby-appearance-blue-ivy.jhtml">Jay-Z's post-Carnegie Hall party</a>, the singer got all dolled up to hang out with first lady Michelle Obama in Manhattan on Monday night. </P><P> </P><P>The first lady of hip-hop and the <i>actual</i> first lady gathered at the Greenwich Hotel for a fundraising event for President Obama. Along with raising some dough, Beyonc&#233; also raised eyebrows, thanks to her slamming post-baby body. Decked out in a body-hugging navy dress by Victoria Beckham, B rocked sky-high heels, dazzling bling (including a diamond-encrusted eagle) and her hair pulled back in a simple ponytail. So what was Beyonc&#233; doing right in terms of styling herself as a new mom? </P><P> </P><P>"When you think of all the things women dislike about themselves, the majority don't like their upper arms and also have skirt-length issues, so she's addressed both of these. It's an interesting choice because it's snug, not tight," celebrity stylist Robert Verdi told MTV News about B's post-baby style. "There's a distinction. It's body-flattering, for sure. </P><P> </P><P>"It's also a very tasteful length: 2 inches above the knee. It's also a very conservative color, and it's very covered, but it still remains very sexy," he continued about the look. "You don't see all the bumps that women have post-pregnancy. ... Again, the distinction is it's body-conscious without revealing every lump and bump. Tight ain't right, but this ain't tight. This is body-skimming." </P><P> </P><P>With Beyonc&#233; heading back into the spotlight more and more, including a set of <a href="/news/articles/1681308/beyonce-memorial-day-atlantic-city-shows.jhtml">shows planned for Memorial Day weekend</a>, does Verdi think Queen B will reassess her stage style now that she's a mom? </P><P> </P><P>"She's really young, and ... her equity is in her sex appeal, so you can't dismiss that," Verdi said. "She's not going to cover up. I think you've seen a similar evolution with Madonna, where fashion is sexy but is more intellectual. It's not as in-your-face. I think you're going to see the same thing with her. You evolve, but I don't think you stop being an attractive woman because you've had a child." </P><P> </P><P><i>What do you think of B's post-baby style? Let us know in the comments!</i></p>

The Troubling Subtext Of Sofia Vergara's Ex-Fiance's 'Embryos Have A Right To Live' Op-Ed

This morning, the New York Times published an op-ed by Nick Loeb, a man who wants to use two embryos he created with his ex-fiancee, despite her objections. "Our Frozen Embryos Have a Right to Live," reads the headline. His ex-fiancee also happens to be the phenomenally famous Sofia Vergara.

Loeb goes into detail about the history of his and Vergara's personal choices: how she wanted to use a surrogate if they had children, how one embryo they implanted didn't take, how their surrogate had a miscarriage. He admits that he and Vergara "signed a form stating that any embryos created through the process could be brought to term only with both parties? consent," which he is now requesting be voided because it did not specify what would happen if the couple split. Loeb also delves into his own personal history: His parents divorced when he was 1, his biological mother was largely absent and his mother figure recently passed away, all of which he says has increased his desire to be a father. He also includes religious commentary, arguing that his quest for "custody" over the embryos has "everything to do with a parent?s right to protect the life of his or her unborn child."

I have sympathy for Loeb's clear desire to have children -- just as I hope that any man or woman who deeply wants to experience parenthood gets the chance to do so. But the subtext of Loeb's op-ed, and that the New York Times gave him a platform to publicly pressure Vergara and expose her reproductive choices, are deeply troubling.

This is a legal case about the validity of a contract, not a Moral Debate about when "personhood" starts. Reading Loeb's op-ed, you'd have no idea.. (And anti-abortion advocates, who are generally quite split on the issue of IVF, have been quick to jump in and support him.) Loeb brings up an ex-girlfriend of his who had an abortion while he was in his 20s, tying this event to his current desire for fatherhood. "Ever since, I have dreamed about a boy at the age he would be now," Loeb writes.

He also argues that keeping embryos indefinitely frozen "is tantamount to killing them." Except that frozen embryos are not children -- they have the potential to become children. Embryos do not need to be fed, nurtured, put through school, taught to tie their shoes and sent off into the world to prosper independently once they become adults. Embryos need to be kept in a freezer at a certain temperature -- and that can be done indefinitely.

Loeb also erroneously equates a woman's right to bring a pregnancy to term with his desire to "to bring embryos to term even if the woman objects." For better or worse, the financial and emotional burden of carrying a child is greater on the person whose body is doing the carrying. Once a woman is pregnant, that responsibility -- and therefore, the choice to take it on or not -- is ultimately on her.

If Loeb's case against Vergara goes to court, it would bring up a number of complicated questions that could have far-reaching consequences for other men and women pursuing IVF with frozen embryos. As Robin Marty wrote in an April 20 piece for Care2.com:
A judge would have to address why demanding spousal, partner or ?father? consent in order to discard embryos is a legitimate requirement for an embryo being destroyed, but not for a pregnancy being terminated. Stating that an embryo, because it is not dependent on a particular person in order to live, has the right to be passed on to someone who will bring it to term and let it be born could even potentially open up new paths for people to claim ?adoption? rights over embryos in storage should those paying fees to keep them frozen decide to destroy them rather than use them.

And the legal precedents surrounding embryo freezing are murky at best. HuffPost's Kim Bellware reported in January that despite reproductive technology having increased exponentially in the last two decades, "fewer than a dozen states have weighed in on legal disputes that arise from the creation, destruction or use of frozen embryos." And the cases that do arise are heart-wrenching and incredibly complex.

As Jezebel's Madeleine Davies wrote earlier this month, when it comes to embryo custody: "It?s a big fucking mess. Should a woman who?s no longer able to have children have her embryos taken away because her former partner no longer wants them? And what if the genders are reversed? There?s no easy answer."

But there are certain elements of the case between Loeb and Vergara that are actually quite simple. Both of them explicitly signed a contract stating that they would not move forward with creating children out of these frozen embryos without mutual consent. One party has not consented, and the other -- who could still have children independent of Vergara -- is upset about it. (On the other hand, Sofia Vergara's desire not to be forced into biological motherhood with her ex can't be undone if Loeb uses these embryos.)

This is not about "saving lives" or "being pro-parent," no matter how many New York Times op-eds Loeb writes. He'll most likely just have to find another partner -- or egg donor -- to make his dreams of fatherhood happen.

Kristen Wiig Turns On the Sexy for Violet Grey

With films like ?Bridesmaids? and ?Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues? under her belt, it?s clear that Kristen Wiig knows how to get a laugh, and it turns out she?s also quite the sultry poser when she wants to be.

The ?Secret Life of Walter Mitty? star is featured in a new vintage-flavored photo spread for Violet Grey?s The Violet Files and in her interview she discusses stripping down to her birthday suit for ?Welcome to Me.?

?Being naked in a film or on stage isn't always supposed to be sexy. It was the part and it felt right, so I did it. Of course you're nervous, and you know people are gonna make comments but if you care about that, your job instantly becomes more difficult. You have to do things for you.?

Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' Single Is 'Definitely Edgier'

Producer/songwriter tells MTV News the 'sexier' track, which drops Monday, will 'definitely surprise people.'
By Jocelyn Vena

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> is days away from dropping his lead <a href="/news/articles/1680373/justin-bieber-believe-album.jhtml"><i>Believe</i></a> single, <a href="/news/articles/1680882/justin-bieber-boyfriend-single-buzz.jhtml">"Boyfriend,"</a> and its early buzz grew even louder on Wednesday when <a href="/news/articles/1681514/justin-bieber-boyfriend-lyrics.jhtml">Bieber released the lyrics</a> for the track. While fans will have to wait until Monday to hear the song, MTV News got a little bit of a tease from one of the guys who worked with the teen sensation on the track. </P><P> </P><P> "This record is different in a very good way," "BF" co-producer and co-writer Mason Levy told MTV News. "Definitely edgier, it's more grown-up, it's more developed and it's sexier. It's just like really dope. It's gonna definitely surprise people. People aren't really expecting that they're going to like it." </P><P> </P><P><center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:744691/cp~id%3D1680192%26vid%3D744691%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A744691" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center> </P><P> </P><P>Levy thinks pretty much everyone is destined to like it, thanks to a sound that reaches far beyond that of Bieber's tweeny pop days. "It's more of something that everyone can drive around and listen to it, whether they're guys or girls or older," he said. </P><P> </P><P>Bieber has said he wanted to grow up with this album and the Mike Posner-produced song. His model was the post-'NSYNC Justin Timberlake. From the sound of it, he might have hit that nail on the head. </P><P> </P><P>"It's more just the verses [that he raps on] and the rest he's singing," he said. "It's dope. It's hip-hop, but with great acoustic R&B, pop guitar with very hip-hop, clubby drums and really dope Justin Timberlake-y melodies." </P><P> </P><P>The creation of the song was pretty organic, Levy said. "We got together and started messing around. It was one of those things where you didn't have to struggle too much. It just kind of happened," he said. "He always goes in and does melodies and he's involved in lyrics and everything." </P><P> </P><P>"Boyfriend" will set the tone for the album, set for release later this year. "There's definitely lots of diversity on the album. There's really ballad-y stuff and there's more stuff like this. I would say ['Boyfriend'] is harder," Levy added. "He's very open to everything." </P><P> </P><P><i>Are you excited to hear a "grown-up" Bieber on "Boyfriend"? Leave your comment below!</i> </P><P></p>

Usher's Next Album 'Soulful, Catchy,' Taio Cruz Teases

'He always wants there to be the soul in there,' Cruz tells MTV News about his 'Without You' collaborator.

"I'm kind of, not the opposite, but I'm always like, 'Let's get straight to the point and be really clear with the message and be simple.' </P><P> </P><P>"So we try to match those two worlds together: being soulful and, at the same time, catchy," he added. </P><P> </P><P>Cruz can't yet discuss what they're working on: Besides "Without You," he said, "Everything else is secret." </P><P> </P><P>Usher said he was drawn to the <a href="/news/articles/1674782/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">Guetta hit</a> because he connected to it emotionally, explaining to MTV News recently what an important part that plays in his musical philosophy. Britney Spears' Big 2011: From A Smash Album To A Ring On Her Finger

A decade into her career, the pop megastar reinvented herself this year as the ultimate Femme Fatale and made a big commitment to Jason Trawick.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Maybe <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>' lucky number is 30. The singer turned 30 this year, marking the landmark birthday on December 2 with a fan-voted MTV News tournament that crowned <a href="/news/articles/1675289/britney-spears-tournament-winner-30th-birthday.jhtml">the Best Britney Video of All Time</a>. But her 30th year also proved to be an incredibly successful period in her career. </P><P> </P><P><center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:720934/cp~vid%3D720934%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A720934" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center> </P><P> </P><P>For the first time in a while, she seemed comfortable being the pop megastar that she is. More than a decade into her career, Spears re-emerged as a <a href="/news/articles/1675474/britney-spears-femme-fatale-favorite-album.jhtml"><i>Femme Fatale,</i></a> giving fans a fist-pumping album, embarking on a flashy tour and dropping more memorable music videos. Britney Spears fandom was reenergized as the singer came out of her shell, opening up about this phase in her career as well her personal life in several high-profile interviews. So it's probably not surprising that Spears will cap off the year at #4 on MTV News' <a href="/news/articles/1676177/newsmakers-2011-lady-gaga-amy-winehouse.jhtml">Top Newsmakers of 2011</a> list, just behind Lil Wayne. </P><P> </P><P>"When I was younger, I was busy, busy, and I was always singing and dancing all the time. I was just really creative," she recalled in the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/news/638813/britney-hits-the-studio-with-william.jhtml#id=166112">MTV special "I Am the Femme Fatale."</a> "That's when my mom realized I'm a really creative person." </P><P> </P><P>She let that creativity shine over the past 12 months. From <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/britney-spears/624145/hold-it-against-me.jhtml#artist=501686">"Hold It Against Me"</a> to <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/britney-spears/639722/till-the-world-ends.jhtml#artist=501686">"Till the World Ends"</a> to her Chris Marrs Piliero-directed "I Wanna Go" and "Criminal," Britney made headlines every time she dropped a music video. But no vid stirred up as much controversy as her <a href="/news/articles/1672795/britney-spears-criminal-video-director.jhtml">"Criminal" clip</a>, which featured real-life boyfriend <a href="/news/articles/1676120/britney-spears-is-engaged.jhtml">(now fianc&#233;) Jason Trawick</a> &#8212; and his abs. </P><P> </P><P>"At the end of the day, Jason killed it," Piliero told MTV News of Trawick's cameo. "That was one of those things I was really stoked [about], as much as I went into it like, 'Wow, he's not an actor. This is going to be interesting,' but I really do like a challenge, and I really do like the idea that I'm a director and my job is to direct and get the performance. For me, it was a fun challenge to be like, 'I'm gonna make sure that you are awesome,' and he was." </P><P> </P><P>Between video shoots, Spears hit the road with <a href="/news/articles/1668836/nicki-minaj-britney-spears-tour.jhtml">the likes of Nicki Minaj</a>, Joe Jonas, and DJ Pauly D. Spears fully embraced her sensuality on the <i>Femme Fatale</i> Tour, a spectacular show full of costume changes, elaborate stage setups and stunning mini-films. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Britney Hits The Studio With will.i.am" id="vid:638813.id:1661123" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>And while much of the 2011 VMA buzz was about <a href="/news/articles/1669849/beyonce-pregnant-vmas.jhtml">Beyonc&#233;'s baby bump</a> and <a href="/news/articles/1669843/lady-gaga-you-and-i-video-music-awards-performance.jhtml">Jo Calderone</a>, Spears stole the spotlight by walking away with a Moonman for Best Pop Video and the prized <a href="/news/articles/1669873/britney-spears-vma-tribute.jhtml">Video Vanguard Award</a>. She also had tongues wagging after an onstage kiss from Jo (a.k.a. Lady Gaga), just before she was honored with an electrifying dance tribute that highlighted some of biggest career moments. </P><P> </P><P>"It was really crazy. I had no idea what to expect," Spears told us backstage at the VMAs. "The kids were amazing and so entertaining, and it was a really fun night. It was really cool. I was like, 'Wow, that's really sweet!' " </P><P> </P><P>As 2011 came to a close, Spears wrapped up her tour, and MTV News threw her a birthday bash in the form of the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/content/news/2011/britney30/index.jhtml">"30 Videos for 30 Years"</a> tournament. The competition was heated but in the end, Spears' iconic "I'm a Slave 4 U" took home the prize. And just when it seemed things couldn't get any better, <a href="/news/articles/1676167/britney-spears-jason-trawick-engaged-timeline.jhtml">Britney confirmed she was engaged</a> to Trawick after dating for two years. Justin Bieber Takes A Few Punches For Complex

'I feel like it's my responsibility to be the greatest I can be,' he says in the magazine's April/May issue.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> appears bloodied and beat up on the cover of <a href="http://www.complex.com/music/2012/03/justin-bieber-cover-story/page/1" target="_blank"><i>Complex</i></a> magazine, and it's a far cry from the Biebs' well-groomed image. </P><P> </P><P>Inside the April/May issue, the 18-year-old opens up about his childhood and his very public relationship with girlfriend Selena Gomez. He also discusses his upcoming <a href="/news/articles/1680373/justin-bieber-believe-album.jhtml">album, <i>Believe,</i></a> pledging that it's "go big or go home" once it drops later this year. </P><P> </P><P>"I feel like it's my responsibility to be the greatest I can be," the magazine cover boy says. "If I start making terrible music, I don't expect people to like me. If I'm making great music and there's no reason for people to dislike me, that's when it's going to make me upset. Watch Todrick Hall Cover All Five Beyonc Albums In Four Minutes

We're not even sure the Queen B can accomplish what Todrick Hall has in just four minutes.

The YouTube star and "American Idol" semi-finalist takes on Beyonc's discography in a new epic video, in which he covers over 70 of her songs. Hall, who filmed four versions of himself, covers all five of Bey's studio albums from throwbacks like "Baby Boy" to "Pretty Hurts." And to make Bey's favorite number (four, duh) even more significant, the exactly four-minute video was filmed in four hours.

Hall has previously impressed the Internet with his remixes of Disney songs as '90s jams, parodies of "Mean Girls," "Cinderella" and the "Cell Block Tango" from "Chicago" and cover of Bey's "Best Thing I Never Had" with Tori Kelly.

Lady Gaga Opens Up About Sometimes Feeling 'Worthless'

Singer discusses being bullied as a child and her plan not to speak to the media 'for a very long time' on 'Oprah's Next Chapter.'
By Jocelyn Vena

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> confessed she wants to have enough children to form a <a href="/news/articles/1681179/lady-gaga-oprah-winfreys-next-chapter-own.jhtml">"soccer team"</a> when she sat down with talk show maven Oprah Winfrey for "Oprah's Next Chapter." In the intimate chat, which took place at Gaga's childhood home in New York City, the never-press-shy Gaga made another big announcement. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:749701/cp~vid%3D749701%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A749701" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> </P><P> </P><P>"Other than this interview, Oprah, I don't intend to speak to anyone for a very long time. I have to shut out the noise," Mother Monster told Winfrey, according to <a href="http://www.gossipcop.com/oprah-lady-gaga-interview-2012-bullying-childhood-oprahs-next-chapter-recap-highlights-video/" target="_blank">Gossip Cop</a>. "The latest thing I do is I don't read a damn thing. No press, no television. If my mom calls and says, 'Did you hear about?' I don't want to know nothing about anything that is going on ... I shut it all off." </P><P> </P><P>Gaga's mother was on hand for parts of the interview, sharing that in Gaga's early days, her father thought she had a "screw loose" while she was performing at downtown New York nightclubs in her bra while lighting hairspray on fire. The superstar added that there's one thing about her current act that her mother isn't a big fan of. </P><P> </P><P>"She doesn't like when I swear," Gaga said, with her mother adding, "You're effective without it." </P><P> </P><P>Another part of the candid chat also focused on Gaga's youth, during which she said she was frequently bullied. "There really is no difference between the bully and the victim," she said. "I would like to do a psychological autopsy on as many bullies and victims as possible ... How do we understand what breeds hatred, what breeds anger?" </P><P>She added that despite all "all the praise you receive, something inside of you is scarred by those experiences. ... Sometimes I feel worthless." </P><P>Parts of the special were also filmed at Harvard University last month. </P><P> </P><P>The singer and the talk show host were on hand at the prestigious college to launch Gaga's <a href="/news/articles/1680176/lady-gaga-launches-born-this-way-foundation-harvard.jhtml"><i>Born This Way</i> Foundation</a>. </P><P> </P><P>"I just have one thing to say before we get started: We got Oprah! ... Thank you from all of us &#8212; from my entire team, from my mother, from the bottom of the hearts of so many people who believe in what we're doing today," Gaga said at the launch. She explained that the foundation seeks to empower the youth of America, adding, "How can we inspire young people to know they have the power to be brave?"</p>

Usher's Next Album 'Soulful, Catchy,' Taio Cruz Teases

'He always wants there to be the soul in there,' Cruz tells MTV News about his 'Without You' collaborator.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> is hard at work on his next album. Set to work with fellow hitmaker <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/cruz__taio/artist.jhtml">Taio Cruz</a>, the two already cooked up some magic with their <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/guetta_david/artist.jhtml">David Guetta</a> anthem <a href="/news/articles/1670301/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">"Without You,"</a> and it seems they are hoping to recapture that spirit for Usher's follow-up to 2010's <i>Raymond v. Raymond</i>. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Taio Cruz's Collabo With Usher Is A 'Secret'" id="vid:717257" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>"I saw Usher a few times, but I spoke to him at length at David [Guetta]'s house when we were in Ibiza [Spain]," he told MTV News in L.A. after his Jingle Ball set. "He has very specific ideas of where he wants to go musically and sound-wise." </P><P> </P><P>Given that Usher has never shied away from exposing a bit of himself in his music, while also keeping the party going, Cruz wants to make sure they can connect the mind, body and soul for this next release. "He always wants there to be the soul in there," he explained. "I think the world wanted a record like that. That [song] really spoke to the journey that I've actually been on in the last three years," he said. "Traveling all around the world, music sounds different. There's many different genres, and when you see R&B and pop and house, as well as electronic, come together, that's the reality of what music is." </P><P> </P><P><div style="background-color:#000000;width:428px;"><div style="padding:4px;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:713197/cp~vid%3D713197%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A713197" width="420" height="236" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></div></div></p>
