Of course, between those two events, there's also going to be a presidential election, the London Olympics and that last "Twilight" movie (finally x 100!), not to mention a whole lot of activity within the lives of your favorite stars, too: Babies, weddings, honorary doctorates in nanotechnology; this is the year it'll all happen. <div class="player-placeholder right" title="2012 Star Predictions" id="vid:722495.id:1672369" width="240" height="211"></div> Which is why, with the new year upon us, I've decided to get my <a href="http://www.amazingkreskin.com/" target="_blank">Kreskin</a> on with these predictions for 2012. Ludacris Taps Usher For Upcoming Spring Album

Are you ready for another <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/ludacris/artist.jhtml">Ludacris</a> album? It's been two years since 'Cris dropped his last album, Battle of the Sexes, and the Atlanta MC estimates that his next one will hit stores this spring. "I get the beats together and I put out my ideas, so I'd say we're maybe about 40 percent done," the rapper told <a href="http://www.billboard.com/column/the-juice/ludacris-eyes-spring-ludaversal-release-1005831952.story#/column/the-juice/ludacris-eyes-spring-ludaversal-release-1005831952.story" target="_blank">Billboard</a> of his upcoming eighth LP, Ludaversal, which he anticipates will be out around May with a first single dropping in March. Luda, who dropped his <a href="/news/articles/1674369/ludacris-1.21-gigawatts-mixtape.jhtml">1.21 Gigawatts mixtape</a> in November, also revealed one big-time guest on the LP. "<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> is one person that I've already worked with," he said. Who can forget Usher's inescapable smash "Yeah!" from his 2004 Confessions album? The two also hooked up on Lil Jon's "Lovers and Friends" in the same year and then again two years ago on Usher's "She Don't Know." As far as what the two have cooked up for Ludaversal, fans will just have to wait and see. Throughout his career, Luda has shown a ton of versatility. An undeniable hitmaker, at times the nimble-tongued lyricist has been comical (2001's "Area Codes" and 2004's "Number One Spot") and in other instances delivered healthy amounts of substance (2006's "Runaway Love" and 2008's "Do the Right Thing"). For Ludaversal, he will get a little personal. "It's been a minute since I've been away from music, and there is just so much to talk about," he said. <a href="/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a> and <a href="/music/artist/jay_z/artist.jhtml">Jay-Z</a> have filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to protect their month-old baby's name and reserve it for future use, MTV News has confirmed. The superstar couple reportedly sought the trademark to stop the use of Blue Ivy's name by others. <div class="player-placeholder right" title="A Gift Buying Guide For Blue Ivy Carter" id="vid:725377.id:1676907" width="240" height="211"></div> It's a smart move, according to family law attorney and author <a href="http://www.vikkiziegler.com/" target="_blank">Vikki Ziegler</a>. "[Seeking the trademark] forestalls competitors from using the child's name and or third parties from attempting to sell the baby's name back to the couple," Ziegler told MTV News. "They are likely trying to protect what they rightfully own or created, shall we say, by trademarking Blue Ivy's name." The application to trademark Blue Ivy Carter's name, filed by BGK Trademark Holdings (Beyoncé's company) is currently pending but will likely be approved because, as the <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/reliable-source/post/blue-ivy-the-trademark-feds-move-fast-on-rights-to-beyonce-and-jay-zs-babys-name/2012/02/03/gIQAOTDGnQ_blog.html" target="_blank">Washington Post</a> reports, parents are legally authorized to trademark the names of their minor children. "In essence, it's a trademark for a brand, and this brand is expected to be one hot commodity — just look at Blue Ivy's parents," Ziegler said. "Anyone else that tried to use the name after the trademark was approved could be sued and held liable for damages." <div class="player-placeholder right" title="Beyonce Will Emerge As A Hollywood Celebrity Mother Brand" id="vid:724613.id:1676907" width="240" height="211"></div> While the Patent Office looks fondly on attempts to trademark the name of one's own child, attempts to do the same with the names of other people's kids are another story, as two designers learned when they sought — just days after Blue Ivy's birth — to trademark the baby's name for their own use. Applications from fashion designer Joseph Mbeh to patent "Blue Ivy Carter NYC" and by an unnamed designer to trademark "Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV" for a fragrance line were denied by the Patent Office, which noted in its decision that the name belonged to a "very famous infant" and consumers would wrongly assume that any products bearing the name had been approved by Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Ziegler noted that the trademark would "protect against others using the child's name as a brand of merchandise in the same marketplace," so it will not impact the "Blue Ivy" trademark held by a clothing boutique in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The store filed to trademark its name on January 19, 2011, a year before Queen B and Jay made the name famous. They received approval on August 23 — five days before <a href="/news/articles/1669849/beyonce-pregnant-vmas.jhtml">Beyoncé announced her pregnancy</a> at the MTV Video Music Awards. This would mark the second collaboration on the album. Madonna nabbed Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. for the album's first single, <a href="/news/articles/1678478/madonna-give-me-all-your-luvin-video.jhtml">"Give Me All Your Luvin'."</a> While the leaked jacket, which appeared on Britney fansite <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/2012/02/britney-on-new-madonna-album/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed" target="_blank">Breatheheavy.com</a>, can't be confirmed as authentic, a rep for Madge had no comment about the rumor, neither confirming nor denying it. Meanwhile, a rep for Spears never returned MTV News' request for comment. This is hardly the first time that the two ladies have worked together. In fact, they have quite a history with each other. The duo kicked off their nearly decade-long friendship at the 2003 VMAs when, in case you hadn't heard, they <a href="/news/articles/1669706/britney-spears-mtv-vma-history.jhtml">shared an onstage kiss</a> while performing together. It was the kiss seen and heard around the world, and nearly 10 years later it is still often talked about as one of the most memorable moments in the show's storied history. After they shared that smooch, Spears was inspired to get the Queen of Pop on her lead In the Zone single, <a href="/news/articles/1658075/britney-spears-me-against-the-music.jhtml">"Me Against the Music."</a> "I was in the middle of rehearsals for the VMAs and I played her the song, and she was like, 'That's your first single, right?' " Britney recalled in a vintage interview with MTV. "I was like, 'Yeah, hopefully.' She was like, 'I really like it.' I was like, 'Really?' I was like, 'Well, you wanna do it with me?' She said, 'Yeah.' " They later appeared together in the warehouse-set video with one another, playing a pop star cat-and-mouse game that featured a near kiss. Five years later, as Spears was prepping her return to the pop spotlight, she appeared <a href="/news/articles/1598804/britney-spears-justin-timberlake-appear-onstage-with-madonna.jhtml">onstage with Madonna</a> during a Sticky & Sweet Tour stop at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The singer hit the stage with the pop icon to perform "Human Nature" by her side. "I admire her as an artist," the Material Girl said, adding that she sees a lot of herself in Spears. "Madonna. No question. She is an amazing entertainer," she said when asked whose career she most would want to emulate. As Madonna preps the release of MDNA in March, Spears is also the topic of conversation in a recent interview with her. When asked by ABC News what it was like to smooch the pop princess, she commented, "Nice moment, good kisser. Cool," she said, clarifying that she wouldn't do it again. "No, I already did it. I don't like to repeat myself." Well, perhaps a kiss would be "reductive" (her word, not ours), but it seems given the love that Madge and Spears fans have for the two pop stars, they wouldn't mind them cooking up some musical magic. Britney Spears' Engagement Begins 'A New Chapter'

The two spent the weekend in Las Vegas, where Spears flashed her Neil Lane engagement ring as they celebrated their upcoming nuptials and Trawick's 40th birthday. <div class="player-placeholder right" title="Britney Spears Expert 'Not Surprised' By Engagement" id="vid:720837" width="240" height="211"></div> Friends and family have been showing their support and <a href="/news/articles/1676171/britney-spears-engagement-fan-reaction.jhtml">well-wishes</a> for the couple's upcoming wedding, including Spears' <a href="/news/articles/1676192/britney-spears-engaged-k-fed-comments.jhtml">ex-husband Kevin Federline</a>, who told <a href="http://tvweek.ninemsn.com.au/blog.aspx?blogentryid=963715&showcomments=true" target="_blank">TV Week</a> magazine that he was "really happy for her." Yet it seems that no one is as happy for Spears than her die-hard fans. MTV News spoke with Las Vegas-based webmaster Jordan Miller, who runs Spears' biggest fan site, <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/" target="_blank">BreatheHeavy.com</a>, and he told us just how thrilled he is about the news. "I was pretty excited for Britney when I found out she was engaged," Miller said. "I think it's a good step for her to have some sort of relationship where she can share her feelings and thoughts about her life, so I'm happy for her." <div class="player-placeholder right" title="Britney Spears Engaged To Jason Trawick" id="vid:720382" width="240" height="211"></div> And it seems all of his followers agree. "The overwhelming reaction from fans about the news of Britney's engagement is that they're really happy for her," Miller said. "They think it's such good timing for her, to finish the tour and kind of have a break and be able to start a new chapter in her life. So I think the majority of fans are really happy for Britney and that it's definitely a good step for her." The news doesn't come as a big shock to Miller, since rumors of Britney's engagement have been swirling for months. "There were rumors for the last six months pretty much saying he was going to do it in December," Miller said of the couple, who have been <a href="/news/articles/1676167/britney-spears-jason-trawick-engaged-timeline.jhtml">dating since 2009</a>. "So it's cool to see that it actually happened and she's going to get married." Details have not been released as to when Britney will tie the knot, but it seems Miller already has the perfect wedding gift in mind from all of her fans. But if he can't beat her, he'll join her. He hinted in the same interview that he would love the chance to collaborate with the broken-hearted songstress. Well, Usher will get his chance to prove his chart dominance once again when he drops his new album later this year. He's currently out promoting its lead single, the sexy, sultry, Diplo-produced <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/02/16/usher-diplo-climax-love-affair-song/">"Climax."</a> The singer released a video for the track earlier this month. The sexy clip follows two lovers engaged in a hot, steamy love affair. Usher wrestles with the ramifications of their relationship, pondering it all in his car, with a gun not far away. Leading to the video's climax, Usher watches his lady with her other man, then runs in the house, fires off his gun and runs away. Viewers are left wondering if it was nothing more than a daydream as the video ends with the singer once again sitting in his car, still reflecting, as he pulls away from the supposed crime scene.

The young heartthrob took the opportunity to introduce Jepsen, whom he recently signed to his Schoolboy Records label. During an interview with Ellen, Bieber recalled hearing Jepsen's track on the radio in Canada and jumping on YouTube to find out more about the "talented" singer. After learning of her local success, Bieber realized she was unsigned in the U.S. and immediately decided to change that. Life has certainly taken a 180-degree turn for Jepsen in the last two months. "I had never branched outside of Canada, and I didn't know how to do that, and then one miraculous day, Justin called," Jepsen told Ellen. "It seemed too good to be true." Josh Hartnett Reveals Why He Gave Up His Life As A Hollywood Heartthrob

"Whatever happened to Josh Hartnett?!"

If you've been thinking that a lot lately -- after seeing your former heartthrob's face plastered on promotional posters for his new show -- then you're not alone. But fear not, because, well, he's back. That's right, "Penny Dreadful" is a new series on Showtime, and it will be bringing you your weekly dose of Mr. Hartnett for weeks to come. But, what has he been doing for all these years?

In a new interview with Details magazine, Hartnett reveals that, at the height of his career, fame became a little too much for him to deal with, so he moved back to his hometown.

"I was on the cover of every magazine. I couldn't really go anywhere. I didn't feel comfortable in my own skin. I was alone. I didn't trust anyone. So I went back to Minnesota and got back together with my old friends -- ended up getting back together with my high school girlfriend for a while -- and I didn't do any filming for 18 months," he tells Details. "I'm still finding my way through all that."

For the past 10 years, the now 35-year-old has been focused on taking roles in independent films, which allowed him to really fight to get hired -- something he never had to do in his late teens-early 20s.

"I didn't have to struggle as an actor, although I think that I've made up for it now," Hartnett explains. "I still get offered films and TV roles, luckily, but years ago, if I saw a role I wanted, there was a good chance I could grab it. When I see a role now, I've got to fight for it. It's not bad. It's actually more rewarding. Depressing when something doesn't go your way, but only for a minute."

As for his reputation as a "ladies' man," the "Pearl Harbor" star admits that dating is actually not his cup of tea.

"If you're a ladies' man, that's what you do with your life -- always chasing. That's never been the case with me," he explains. "I've always just wanted a relationship. Otherwise there's nothing. The scene can eat you up. It's eaten up enough of my life already."

<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> dropped his <a href="/news/articles/1681748/justin-bieber-boyfriend.jhtml">bumping new single "Boyfriend"</a> on Monday (March 26), teasing his next album, <a href="/news/articles/1681595/justin-bieber-boyfriend.jhtml">Believe.</a> It's a grinding, midtempo song that hears Bieber proclaiming all the ways he can make a girl happy (swag and fondue included!). Co-produced and co-written by "Cooler Than Me" singer Mike Posner, the song shows growth from Bieber's "Baby" days. "Because I'm an artist myself, I can be pretty selective on who I produce for and who I make beats for ... and really what I'm looking for is an amazing vocalist, somebody that can sing better than I can," he continued. "And the other thing is somebody that's willing to not try to make something that succeeds within the matrix of what pop music is now, but makes something that moves that matrix to where it is, and Justin was willing to take that leap with me." Bieber spoke to Ryan Seacrest on his radio show hours after the song's world premiere Monday, explaining why this was the perfect track to kick off the Believe era. "It was a really hard choice. I mean, we had so many songs, so many uptempos we could release, [that] I thought, 'Let's slow it down,' " he said, adding that there are already plenty of fast songs all over the radio. "It's just something a little bit more mature, but it's also something I think I'm ready for." While fans and industry insiders had been wondering what a more grown-up Bieber would sound like, he said he tried to block out all the noise when making the track. "There's so many people that are going to give me opinions, but I'm the only one who can ultimately make those decisions, because I'm going to have to live with my career for the rest of my life. So I thought this was the perfect single," he said, adding that this song "was me all the way; it is a representation of me." And Bieber said "Boyfriend" perfectly sets up what's coming next. "It's kind of classic," he said of the album. "The songs, I feel, won't get old. The music is very fresh, but it's also — I'm taking a lot from old-school music, a lot of Michael Jackson, a lot of old R&B, a lot of old pop. It's pretty special." What do you think of "Boyfriend"? Her marriage is in shambles and her financial situation isn?t much better so it?s no wonder Tori Spelling checked into a hospital for a six-day stay earlier this month.

According to an E! source, the ?Beverly Hills: 90210? star checked out of the facility on Saturday (April 26) and was wearing a pink hospital band on her wrist.

Furthermore, Tori?s cheating husband Dean McDermott is said to have been quite supportive of his ailing wife throughout her hospitalization and rarely left her side.

The insider shared, "He would arrive by 10am and didn't leave until 8 most nights. He seemed very stressed out and worried. He would bring food and often only left Tori to go outside to catch some air or make a phone call.''

Spelling posted a blog entry last week to clue fans in on what?s been happening as of late. "I wanted to take a moment to address what's been going on in my life over the last several months. Our family has been going through an incredibly difficult and trying time, and the story of what I've been going through has been told by everyone except for me. So, it's time for me to set the record straight."

Justin Bieber Should 'Stay Strong,' Usher Says

He's gone from up-and-comer to full-fledged pop sensation, racking up chart-topping albums and a box-office hit and becoming an all-around mega-heartthrob — all in two years. Of course, with the good does come negative attention as well. Recently, Bieber was hit with a <a href="/news/articles/1674509/justin-bieber-paternity-suit-dropped-2.jhtml">paternity lawsuit, which has since been dropped</a>. Usher, no stranger to his own controversies, had these words for the Biebs: "Stay strong. And know that all of this comes with the territory." Aside from the drama, Usher is especially proud of Bieber's charitable side. His mentor said he "absolutely" knew the kid from Stratford, Ontario, had a big heart from the start. "To write a check is only half of it, but when you truly take on a responsibility to be a philanthropist, you accept an effort, and I really think that Pencils of Promise is something that has a very bright future," <a href="/news/articles/1674628/justin-bieber-new-york-city.jhtml">Usher told MTV News at an event for the charity</a>, noting that Bieber is a only a small part of it.
