Here is the first trailer for ‘Whitney,’ the Lifetime Whitney Houston biopic, with Yaya DaCosta in the title role. The TV movie, which was directed by Angela Basset in her directorial debut, has been the subject of intense controversy and discussion. We now have our first glimpse. Lately, when it comes to biopics, Lifetime Channel has not fared particularly well. The chorus of criticism over the channel’s ‘Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B’ biopic was immense, as legitimate concerns were raised, particularly over the depiction of the late R&B singer and her relationship with and underage marriage to R Kelly. And now the even more controversial ‘Whitney’ biopic is set to premiere in January. Family members of the late legendary diva voiced their objections even before production began. To say the least, the project did not have the blessing of the Whitney Houston estate.
