SNL 40: Steve Martin Opening Monologue, Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary (VIDEO)

Steve Martin delivered the SNL 40 opening monologue on the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary television special and he was interrupted by many stars from Tom Hanks to Miley Cyrus. Watch the video of the amazing tour de force on Studio 8H, paying homage to the show’s long and unique legacy. It began auspiciously enough, as Steve Martin had the weight of 40 years of Saturday Night Live opening monologues to somehow transcend or perhaps encapsulate even as he created a new iconic moment. Arguably he succeeded handily. Steve Martin has been on SNL for so many times one would be forgiven for thinking he was a former cast member. But nonetheless he is a member of the five-timers club — i.e. having hosted the show for at least five times.
