Britney Spears? ?Perfume? Music Video: A Cinematic Betrayal Unfolds

Britney Spears’ ‘Perfume’ music video has debuted. The highly cinematic clip finds the pop superstar as a woman enduring an endless night, an indifferent lover, and increasingly strong suspicions of another woman’s presence. ‘Perfume’ is the second single from Britney Spears’ new album, ‘Britney Jean.’ After the highly sexualized dance and flirtation of ‘Work Bitch,’ it’s now the unsettling side of love that is on full display. Directed by Joseph Kahn, the song gets the cinematic treatment with Britney as the woman with suspicions, Norwegian model Alexander Kjellevik as the boyfriend and actress Lyndsy Fonseca (‘How I Met Your Mother’) as the other woman. Although the video runs no more than the standard four minutes, its murky neon-infused setting gives the feeling of being in the midst of an unending contemporary film noir, and expecting to find a body. But the death is the death of trust and security. As Britney sings in the darkly lighted bedroom — which looks as if it might be a motel room somewhere on an anonymous interstate highway exchange with side rides lined with fast food restaurants, gas stations and motels — her suspicions take hold.
