Dr. Dre, Lady Gaga and others have also used their music careers as launch pads to much more.

Can we still call Justin Timberlake a triple threat? We're not questioning the fact that he can sing, dance and act — although, he hasn't done the first two in quite some time, so he may need to remind us — as much as we're thinking that "triple" doesn't begin to describe his threat.
Aside from the incredible success 'NSYNC and his solo career brought him, Timberlake launched a clothing line (William Rast), has his own brand of tequila (901), has co-owned or endorsed multiple restaurants including Chi, Destino and Southern Hospitality, and we hear he's a great golfer. Now, the news came Monday (April 16) via Elle Décor that Timberlake is designing and curating a home-goods line. Step aside, Martha Stewart.
Timberlake is collaborating with interior designer Estee Stanley on the collection, which will be available exclusively on HomeMint in May. He told Elle Décor, "I like very clean, almost modern architecture, and the obstacle with something like that is making it extremely warm, because it doesn't naturally lend itself to that. With everything [Stanley and I] do together, we try to get the juxtaposition right. To make pieces and rooms that are multifaceted, that blend different genres of architecture and design."
We never thought Timberlake would venture into the world of color swatches, which got us thinking of the other celebrities who took on projects aside from the typical fragrance line. From Jessica Simpson's fashion line to Hanson's MMMHop beer, here's our list of atypical celebrity side projects:
Jessica Simpson
Simpson first made her way into the design world via her Dessert fragrance line. The scents were not only for smell, but taste. She got the idea from then-husband Nick Lachey, who would kiss her on the neck and get the acidic taste of perfume in his mouth. She created a fragrance that had a sweet taste if accidently ingested. The idea was probably better in theory than practice, but that one endeavor led to a popular line of clothing, handbags, swimwear, sunglasses, heels and dresses.
Lady Gaga
Mother Monster collaborated with Polaroid last year for her Grey Label collection, creating a portable photo printer and Polaroid camera sunglasses. The printer instantly prints photos sent to it from any Bluetooth device. The sunglasses also come with Bluetooth capabilities and have a USB connector in the earpiece. They can snap photos and record video.
Dr. Dre
Take a ride on any NYC subway and you're bound to see someone with a pair of red, black or white Beats by Dre headphones. The success of his line led to collaborations for Gaga's in-ear Heartbeats headphones, Diddy's Diddybeats and LeBron James' Powerbeats. His over-ear headphones are now available in a variety of colors, including pink, orange, purple and blue.
Victoria Beckham
When you look at Victoria Beckham now, you hardly remember she was Posh Spice of the Spice Girls. Beckham has transformed herself into a sophisticated woman with high-class taste, which is why her natural progression into the world of fashion wasn't that unusual. With a line of dresses, denim, eyewear and accessories, Beckham has successfully transitioned into a business far from '70s-style platform boots and metallic mini-dresses.
Hanson
Hanson stole the hearts of tweens in the '90s with their upbeat hit single "MMMBop." Now that those tweens are in their 20s, Hanson announced late last year the launch of their MMMHop IPA beer. Zac Hanson told reporters at Oxford University Union that they'll continue with the music, but want "to create a brand so that our fans have a greater experience." We'll happily take a 12-pack, please.
