The 44-year-old actor Matthew McConaughey famously lost 40 pounds for his portrayal of the real-life AIDS patient Ron Woodroof in the 1980s-era ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ and despite a strong field which included Leo DiCaprio in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ and Chiwetel Ejiofor in ’12 Years a Slave’ he was a favorite to win the Best Actor Oscar.
