?Divergent? Trailer (Video): Shailene Woodley Stars in Dystopian Thriller

The first full-length trailer for ‘Divergent’ has finally arrived. Shailene Woodley stars in the highly anticipated science fiction thriller that some have dubbed the next ‘Hunger Games.’ While it may seem like Hollywood repackaging of a cookie-cutter blockbuster formula, the parallels to ‘The Hunger Games’ are nonetheless virtually impossible to escape. It’s a case of another writer exploring resonant themes. ‘Divergent’ is based on Veronica Roth’s debut novel of the same title, which just happens to be the first book of a trilogy of the same title. It also happens to have a strong, fearless female lead character. This time the dystopian future setting is a Chicago in which people are rigidly categorized into five factions — Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite – based of their perceived personality traits as measured by a special aptitude test they take as 16-year-olds. Shailene Woodley portrays Beatrice Prior, nicknamed ‘Tris,’ who learns that she is a ‘Divergent,’ meaning she does not belong to any of the factions.
